Learning is considered to be a gift. The more one learns, the more he or she evolves as a human. Learning has no age bar, we learn throughout our lives. To achieve our goals in life, we should keep learning, which enables us to acquire the required skills and knowledge.

There is a common misconception, that learning is always associated with schools and colleges, however, every arena of life has something to teach us, we only require the vision to identify that. Learning is not only essential for boosting our knowledge, but it also increases our self-confidence, open doors to new opportunities and helps us in being successful in life.

However, learning just for the sake of it is not beneficial, one needs to have a curious mind to learn. The curiosity for knowing something new keeps us busy and prevents us from getting bored. Our mind remains active when we are curious to know something, this, in turn, helps us to learn faster and also to retain it for longer. The role of learning in personality development is indispensable. We may wish to learn a particular skill for a passion towards it, this, in turn, adds positivity to our lives and help us to grow. Thus, it is the need of the teacher to devise ways in which they can make learners curious. Let us look at some of the methods which can be adapted to instil curiosity among learners.

1. Encourage students to ask a question:

It is believed that the more doubts a student has, the more he is learning and more he is interested to learn. Thus, to instil curiosity among student’s teachers must stress on answering questions asked by students or encourage them to find the solution themselves. The more suitable answers students get over the years, the more interest they gather in the subject. This makes them curious and encourages them to learn more.

2. Assign Challenging question:

After teaching a particular topic teachers must design a questionnaire such that it contains some challenging questions which insist students think critically. This challenges the acquired knowledge of the students which makes them curious to learn more. Also while researching the topic, they acquire certain newer concepts and cling on to learn more. This enables students to explore the subjects more deeply and obtain a complete grasp of it.

3. Explaining concepts through animations:

It is observed that student’s get bored with a monotonous reading of the teachers thereby loses interest in the subject. Therefore, teachers must provide students with properly animated videos to give them an audio-visual experience of what they are leaning. Such animations bring in students attention and make them curious to learn. Moreover, knowledge gathered through animation is more practical thus making the learning effective. Providing real-time examples and explaining concepts from experiences gathered in real life are also considered tools to enhance the learning experiences of students.

4. Providing Hands-on experience:

Acquiring bookish knowledge is of no use unless the student learns to apply the same in practical fields. Students gather immense pleasure when they apply the things learned from books in their actual life. Hence, the teacher should emphasize applying the acquired knowledge in real life by providing them with hands-on experiences. This enables the student to learn through hit and trial method and also help them to bridge gaps between theoretical and practical knowledge. Such practices are believed to make concepts more clear and learning beautiful.

5. Implementing playful tricks in learning:

Studies reveal that a child’s mind is most active when at play. Teachers can take an advantage of the same and combine education with play. While playing students minds are open and exposed to learn new things. Therefore, any knowledge provided to them through playing can be retained for long and also raise questions in their mind. Such practices make them curious and make learning enjoyable.

6. Organizing group activities:

Competitiveness is proved to act as a tool to make students curious. Thus, teachers should always encourage students to perform group activities, this creates an exchange of knowledge among students and also instils curiosity among them. It is believed that when similar minds come together, subjects can be explored vividly. A feeling that if he knows why not me, gives rise to a lot of doubts and encourages them to learn more. Not only this but working together also strengthens the bonds and builds team spirit which is beneficial for the rest of the life.

7. Pulling up from failures:

It is often said that failure is a better teacher than success. The fact that failures are painful cannot be denied, but it is important to fail. While introspecting failure, people discover the path to success. Failures also inculcate curiosity among learners, they become curious to find out about their reasons to fail and that in turn helps them to learn. The teacher thus needs to encourage students not to fear failure but to obtain the positives from that.

8. Teachers themselves must display curiosity:

At a tender age, it is commonly observed that young minds try to imitate elders, knowingly or even unknowingly. They observe us in various ways. Thus teachers while teaching must show curiosity and eagerness to lean. The same trait can gradually be transmitted to students. Identifying areas of student’s interest and molding the subject matter according to that act as tools to make students curious. At the same time, body language and expressions of teachers plays important roles in learning.


Igniting curiosity among students is also a part of the educators’ responsibility. A curious kid can learn in an enjoyable as well as efficient way. Therefore, teachers must adopt various approaches such that they can gather student’s interests in the same. Moreover, they should stress teaching areas of practical importance and help students to connect to the topic. The more relatable the stuff is, the more curious the kids are. Curiosity enhances the learning experience and allows a learners mind to grow and evolve.
